A few years ago while visiting back home in Quebec, I tried Schisandra for the first time in a delicious Kombucha blend from RISE with rose water.

I was curious to know more about this adaptogen, since as an avid health & nutrition self proclaimed nerd, I had never heard of it. I was happily surprised to find out that not only it’s been used in Chinese Medicine for centuries, but it was gaining popularity in diverse holistic health circles.
One of its main usage is to absorb the leakage of Lung Qi. In Chinese medicine, your Lung Qi - energy - controls or manages your defensive energy. With Lung Qi deficiency, your defensive energy will be weak. So, adaptogens will do what adaptogens do best : help your body adapt to stress and endure less of its negative side effects.
Anxiety?
Schisandra may be your new ally.
It quietens the spirit and calms the heart, treating symptoms such as panic attacks, palpitations, irritability, dream disturbed sleep and insomnia.
Schisandra may also be used for loss sex drive in women and men. I also recommend maca and ashwagandha for sexual energy.
You can buy the berries whole and make a sipping wine (recipe below) or use a tincture in a glass of water.
I’ve also “spiked” my smoothie bowls often with this little wonder.
